The Perfect Nanny by Leila Slimani had me spellbound from the opening line. I absolutely loved the majority of this book, I just knew this one was going to blow me away. We find out right away what happened and who did it. Insert jaw-drop here. I love the way Slimani developed the nanny, Louise's, character. Louise was complex and strange and I was so curious about her and I wanted to know what drove her past the brink of sanity. This is where the book basically threw me off the roller coaster ride. I read the whole book, short as it may be, to find out WHY. I finished the book and I never found out why... I was left frustrated by this. The rich details that were used to bring all of the characters and this story to life were completely wiped out by my disappointment over the ending. The story telling in this one is superb, but the ending left me wanting more.
If you enjoy richly developed characters and can look past a vague ending check this one out for yourself.
