Most Memorable Books of 2017
I was asked to put together a list of my most memorable reads for this year by Kate Olson, also known as The Loud Library Lady. She has put together several various book lists of 2017 of her own, but she chose to showcase a variety of memorable reads by asking several of her favorite bookstagrammers to share our lists as well.
I wanted to share a bit more about WHY these particular books were more memorable to me than some others I have read and loved.
All The Missing Girls by Megan Miranda was one I adored for it's unique writing style. The story unfolds in reverse and not in the traditional linear fashion, which I loved. I also remember this one because every single time I thought I had the ending figured out, I was wrong. Megan Miranda is also the first author I had the pleasure of meeting for a book signing, it was so much fun. You can view my full review of All The Missing Girls here.
The Arrangement by Sarah Dunn was one of the first titles that came to mind when I was forming this list. This is my number one recommended non thriller read of the year. This book is perfect to read as a book club and it's thought-provoking and hilarious. You can view my full review of The Arrangement here.
Gather The Daughters by Jennie Melamed can best be summarized by saying, "I. Want. More." I discovered this one through Little, Brown and Co.'s genius marketing campaign and I ran with it. Dystopian Fiction is a genre I can easily get lost in but rarely choose to read above thrillers. This is shockingly a debut novel and Melamed completely blew me away. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to do a Q&A session with Jennie Melamed and my Salt Water Reads co-curater Stacey Armand. To read our full Q&A click here. You can check out my full gushing review of Gather The Daughters here.
Good Me Bad Me by Ali Land was psychological suspense at it's finest. There was never a dull moment in this book and you were never able to let your guard down. If that alone doesn't convince you to pick this one up, you can read my full review here. Anytime I see someone debating whether or not to read this, I give them my best book-loving sales pitch. This one simply cannot be passed up.
Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine was the surprise read of the year for me. I read this because I had heard some good reviews here and there and then the Criminally Good Book Club selected it as a monthly book pick, so I pulled it out of my book stack and dove in. I am so thankful that I did. This is the first book in the Stillhouse Lake series and the second book, Killman Creek, released this week. The Criminally Good book club is actually going to be reading this in January 2018 if you want to join in. You can read my full review here to see exactly why you MUST read this book.
Lie to Me by J.T. Ellison was another Salt Water Reads book club selection. I loved this one because it was fast-paced and fresh. You think you know what happened, but you're wrong. The chapters are short and they have alluring titles that beg you to keep reading. The story is told from multiple narrators and goes back and forth between the past and the present. Ellison managed to weave the different times and POV's masterfully. To see my favorite quote from Lie to Me and read my full review, click here.
I feel like this list is a bit premature. I have a few reads still waiting for me before the end of this month and there is a good chance one or two of them might be worthy of this list. I have several other 5 star reviews that could easily be added to this list but I tried to narrow it down with specifics. Full reviews of all of my books are located right here on my blog, happy reading.
