“We’re all such good people. Until we’re not. Until something pushes us over the edge.” - Unreliable Narrator, Lie To Me
Lie To Me by J.T. Ellison is a fast-paced page turner that will keep your head spinning until the end. I was absolutely hooked on this book from the very first sentence, and J.T. Ellison didn’t let go of the hold her words had on me until the very last one. I believe the characters weren’t meant to be likable, however, that didn’t stop me from being smitten with Ethan Montclair from the start. Having said that, I didn’t particularly find his wife, Sutton, likable and I was still all in. J.T. Ellison masterfully unravels a tale that is flipping back and forth between ‘then’ and ‘now’ as well as between multiple narrators. We are given stories from Ethan, Sutton and an unreliable narrator. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil the surprise identity of that character, but I will say that those chapters were some of my favorites. Lie To Me is packed full of all of my favorite elements; drama, betrayal, plot twists, secrets, and of course lies. This one has short chapters which is, again, a factor that I love. I was flying through those chapters and just had to know more. Another treat J.T. Ellison allowed us was the naming of the Chapters, they are simply addictive. I dare you to finish one chapter and read the title of the next without continuing on. Your interest will be peaked, no doubt.
I have seen this book compared to another beloved title by many readers on multiple occasions. I will say that for me this one was so much more than anything that has come before it. I was constantly engaged and excited throughout the entire 400 pages. That’s hard to do y’all.
This was my first J.T. Ellison novel and I read it as part of the Salt Water Reads book club that I co-curate with Stacey Armand over on Instagram. I am officially a fan and now I need all the books she has ever written or plans to write. I. Am. Hooked.
If you enjoy addictive books that constantly surprise you, this is the book for you.
I give this one 4.5 addictive stars out of 5.
