Stillhouse Lake

I am sending out a HUGE thank you to Thomas & Mercer, an imprint of Amazon Publishing, for sending me this free copy in exchange for an honest review - all opinions are my own. Seriously, THANK YOU, I loved this book!

Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine is going to give you a book hangover, you have been warned. The good news is that there will be a second novel in the series, Killman Creek releasing in December 2017. I. Cannot. Wait. This was an unexpected out-of-the-park home-run-of-a-read for me. Rachel Caine is a new to me author and now I wonder where she has been my whole adult reading life.

Caine has created paranoia at its finest. Gina Royal the protagonist, also known as Gwen Proctor, is running from a monster in her past. She spends her energy learning how to protect herself and her two kids, almost being consumed by the need to protect them. When you discover what makes the antagonist a monster you’ll understand her dire need for safety. As a mom I can easily relate to the protagonist. You want to protect your children at all cost, you are willing to go to great lengths to do so. There is an inner battle that Gwen struggles with, the need to survive against the wish that they could live normal lives. Her family is constantly ready to run at a moment’s notice and it’s taking a toll on her kids as well as on Gwen. Will Gwen and her kids outrun the monster or will he find them? Rachel Caine has created a multi-faceted tale that grips at all the things we love most in our thrillers, mysteries and heart-pounding suspense novels. If you are in a book rut or a book slump, pick up Stillhouse Lake. I could not put it down.

If you enjoy books that hook you from beginning to end and then leave you hanging with anticipation for the next book, this is the novel for you.

I give Stillhouse Lake 5 enthralling stars out of 5.

This novel was sitting in my to-be-read stack just waiting for me to get lost in it. Thank you to the Criminally Good Book Club over on Instagram for selecting it for your September read and giving me an excuse to dust it off and dig in.
